How to see a Doctor/Other Healthcare Professional

During the COVID-19 emergency arrangements PLEASE TELEPHONE THE SURGERY AT ALL TIMES IF YOU NEED MEDICAL CARE – DO NOT ATTEND IN PERSON TEL: 01333 432555 (direct line)

We operate a signposting initiative in the practice to ensure that you see the right person for the problem that you have.

We have asked our Receptionists to ask you for an indication of why you need an appointment – it is very important that you give them this information so that they can ensure that you see the most appropriate health care professional.

Please remember that our Receptionists are bound by confidentiality in the same way that we all are in the practice.

PLEASE HELP US TO HELP YOU BY GIVING THE RECEPTIONISTS THE INFORMATION THAT WE HAVE REQUESTED.

Same day appointments

DURING THE COVID-19 EMERGENCY ALL PATIENTS WILL BE GIVEN TELEPHONE CONSULTATION – PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND THE SURGERY IN PERSON UNLESS YOU HAVE BEEN TOLD TO DO SO BY A GP OR NURSE

The Practice also operates a system whereby patients with an urgent medical problem that cannot wait for a routine appointment on another day can be seen by a Doctor when routine surgeries have finished – again this may not always be with the Doctor of your choice. It should be noted that these appointments should not be regarded as a convenient way of seeing the Doctor (e.g. to fit in with working hours) and we would request that patients only request these appointments when their medical problem cannot wait for the next available routine appointment.

Cancellation of appointments

For all those patients who do not attend booked appointments, the same number have to wait longer to get another appointment. We ask that if you are unable to attend an appointment, for whatever reason, that you let the Health Centre know asap as this will allow the appointment to be allocated to another patient and shorten the waiting times for everyone.

Telephone Advice

Telephone advice is available to all patients. Just phone the surgery and let the Receptionist know that you would like to speak to either a Doctor, Nurse or Health Visitor. If they are not available when you phone, he/she will call you back when they are free.

Please note that telephone advice is also available from NHS 24, 24 hours per day – they can be contacted on 111.

Home Visits

We would request that you try and come to the surgery where possible*. However, if you do require a home visit, this can be organised by phoning 01333 432555 or 425656. We ask that, where possible, any requests are made by 10.30am to allow the doctors to plan their rounds efficiently. Please give the Receptionist details of the problem – this will enable the Doctor to give priority to urgent calls. If you feel the call is an emergency please make this clear to the Receptionist.

*Please remember that several patients can be seen in the Practice in the time it takes to make one home visit. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the Health Centre.
